Segment ProductionIN THE LIFE is seeking freelance producers to write and produce non-fiction (newsy, investigative) segments. Working with our Coordinating Producer, freelancers take stories from development to completion, writing script, shooting interviews with crew, overseeing editing and supplying all deliverables on time and within budget. This is perfect for producers who can manage multiple freelance projects simultaneously. Only producers with broadcast experience will be considered.

AcquisitionIN THE LIFE has a 17-year heritage of producing powerful stories about the people and issues shaping the gay experience, nationally and abroad. Now we are looking to the independent producing community to help expand and diversify our programming.

2009 CALL FOR ENTRIESIN THE LIFE MEDIA, INC. is looking to acquire documentary stories about the LGBTQ experience for our 2009 and 2010 season. We will consider factual content that meets the following criteria:
Documentaries created by independent producers who have complete editorial control. Instructional media, stories made for a client, and sponsored films are not eligible.
Documentaries of any length. Short projects (10 mins. and under) are welcome and encouraged. Producers will be asked to cut works longer than 30:00 to comply with our broadcast format and content needs. Editing of content will be handled on a case by case basis.
Non-fiction content only.
Projects that have all releases, permissions and cleared rights.
International content is encouraged.
Stories that give voice to underrepresented communities are encouraged.
Broadcast premiere. Preference will be given to projects having their broadcast premiere on IN THE LIFE.
IN THE LIFE will consider projects with evergreen content (like historical docs etc) if it has had limited television exposure. This is a rare opportunity for a 2nd or 3rd window for evergreen content.
Projects that follow APT underwriting and funding guidelines. Further details are available at APT National Program Funding Standards and Practices.
Documentaries that are near completion. Occasionally IN THE LIFE MEDIA, INC.will provide limited funds or resources like sound design, mixing, on-line editing, etc for completion. Such funding will be applied towards the acquisition fee for broadcast rights.

The Coordinating Producer reserves the right to make exceptions to these guidelines.
