Talking It Out

This month's IN THE LIFE, Talking it Out, expands its popular "A Conversation With..." series to a full hour pairing Camille Paglia with Sandra Bernhard; Michael Billy with Richard Kim; and Dr. Marjorie Hill with Wilson Cruz, to explore ideas, personalities, and challenges from the LGBT experience.

 

Encore: Inside Out

Hosted by Tony-award winning actor, Cherry Jones, this month's Encore IN THE LIFE, "Inside Out", features a collection of stories, including, A Call to Duty, that looks at the army's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy through the experience of one person who had to go back into "the closet" in order to reenlist following the events of 9/11; Madame Speaker, recounting Christine Quinn's historic rise as the first woman - and openly gay one - in the predominantly male maelstrom of New York City politics to becoming the most influential legislator in the city's government; and a Real to Reel that recounts the hysteria that swept Smith College in 1960, when three gay professors were ensnared in an undercover sting operation, through the film: "The Great Pink Scare."

 

Leading the Way

IN THE LIFE's June Pride show, "Leading the Way," celebrates people, places, and events that display the remarkable courage and diversity found with the ranks of the LGBT community: being "out" in Nepal, in the world of Grand Opera, and on Broadway; and also featuring A Conversation With... Judy Shepard, reflecting on the tenth anniversary of the death of her son, Matthew.

Challenging Convention

This month, IN THE LIFE presents, "Challenging Convention," which features a conversation with actress Kathleen Turner and Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Edward Albee. Other stories include a look at the controversial children's book And Tango Makes Three; what it was like to come out in Poland during the ultra-conservative rule of the Kaczynski brothers; and an exploration of the tight-knit communities that develop at gay campgrounds.

 

Voices of Sisterhood

Wide Stance

IN THE LIFE's January episode, Wide Stance, will feature a diverse collection of stories, from a look at a film that examines biblical language about homosexuality, to a photo essay of men dancing together. We'll hear what it's like to be a gay rapper, take an unflinching and historical look at public sex and entrapment, through the lens of the Senator Larry Craig scandal. Throughout the show, the ever-controversial Margaret Cho, and lesbian comic Kate Clinton, will go head-to-head in conversation.
